Trust Issues in a Relationship
Written By Thomas Keene
Can you reclaim a relationship
that has been damaged by broken trust? Are there trust issues in relationship to thoughtless and
self-centered actions? It is commonly believed that once a couple has lost trust in each other that their
relationship can not go on. This does not have to be the case. Let's look at a couple of things you can do to
help restore this trust. To begin with, you will need to alter both your attitude and your actions to deal
with trust issues in relationship. Trust is very important to a couple and when that trust has been damaged,
you can either give up on each other or you can begin to reconstruct that lost trust as a couple regardless
of who is to blame.
If you were the one who broke the trust, start by looking within yourself for the
cause of your lapse in judgment. Take the time to consider what you need to do or what needs to be done in your
relationship to stop the brake in trust from reoccurring. Realize that the trust issues in relationship can't be
repaired just on the outside. You need to discover the reason underneath and work on repairing that. Take into
consideration that as much as you may want to, you may not be able to work through this by yourselves. Don't be
afraid to seek out a couple's counselor or couple's therapy.
Once you find and understand the cause of your trust issue, you have to take action
to repair the problem or problems. The key to re-establishing trust in your relationship is for you to take action,
don't just talk about it. A great way to start rebuilding the trust issues in relationship is to start making and
keeping small promises. Keeping small promises is a good way to build up to bigger trust issues. Remember-be
consistent. Each and every day-keep your word. If you promise to do something, make sure you keep that promise. As
the days go by and you demonstrate that you are true to your word, you will slowly begin to regain the lost trust
in your relationship.
Even though things will get better in time, your ex will probably bring up the cause
of your broken trust every now and then. It's not because they are trying to hurt you, just the opposite. They have
been hurt so they need the reassurance that things are different now. Don't get upset at them or be offended. Just
be understanding and know that this is a reaction due to the trust issues in relationship to your previouse
behavior. Remember, you are making an effort to change things and that takes time. Be ready to reassure your
partner by your actions as well as your words that things have really changed. Going through this hard time doesn't
have to destroy your relationship. If you deal with things correctly, you could come away with a stronger bond than
you had before.
